Orange County provides Port Jervis with study funds for whitewater park
PORT JERVIS – Orange County government has awarded Port Jervis a $10,000 planning grant to study its proposed whitewater park on the Delaware River.
Mayor Russell Potter, who sought the funding, said the timing couldn’t be more perfect.
“In August when the Delaware River is at its lowest, the engineers have to be able to get out there and study the river and engage the water and the water flow and the depth so we can start planning for next year,” he said. “We have to have the initial engineer’s report on the water flow and all of that stuff before we begin the in depth engineering.”
Potter said the county grant will fund the majority of the cost of the study. The whitewater committee, he said, is out there selling t-shirts and raising funds on its own in an effort to bring the proposal to reality.
